i wish it were that simple. forgetting. like in that movie, eternal sunshine. with the press of a button you’d be gone. but in real life it’s much harder than that. i have to occupy my mind with menial tasks. waiting, while time slowly piles on new memories that can cover up and hide away the bright shiny ones we made together. blocking and stifling their brilliance like a thick coat of dust on old keepsakes. but sometimes those memories still burn and bleed through the monotony of it all. they entice me like a siren’s song, wailing in the distance of my consciousness. i could drown in those memories if i let myself look at them for too long. spiral right back down into the very core of my hopelessness, anger, and despair. because at the end of the day, i still miss you. i’ll probably always miss you. and there’s nothing i can do, but try so very ardently to forget you completely.
