all lives end. all hearts are broken. caring is not an advantage.

Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn’t it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses. You build up a whole armor, for years, so nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life…They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn’t your own anymore…so a simple phrase like ‘maybe we should be just friends’ turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It’s a soul-hurt, a body-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. Nothing should be able to do that. I hate love.

i’m scared. i don’t want to go through all of that again. but really, what choice do we have? all we can do is hope that we’ve trusted the right person.

“When you develop an infatuation for someone you always find a reason to believe that this is exactly the person for you. It doesn’t need to be a good reason. Taking photographs of the night sky, for example. Now, in the long run, that’s just the kind of dumb, irritating habit that would cause you to split up. But in the haze of infatuation, it’s just what you’ve been searching for all these years.”

- Richard | The Beach

Every time you make me smile, I try to remind myself that this is exactly what’s happening now and that you really aren’t that special at all.
